I don’t know about you all, but by the end of the day I am always wound super tight. I blame it on all the technology floating around out there; whenever I spend too much time on the computer I always start to feel frustrated . But more than not I am easy going and happy. That said it is always a good idea to have a way to express your feelings at the end of the day. Peter Minkoff has written another fantastic post on different ways to express your feelings.Obviously writing is my favorite way to express my feelings, but I also love drawing and just dancing it out! Whether they are positive or negative, everyone has the need to express their built up feelings in order to feel more fulfilled. Creativity is one of the best ways we can convey our emotions and free ourselves from the pressure of keeping them all in. However, the mistake most of us tend to make is when we think we need some sort of talent in order to express creatively. The most important thing is to find a form of expression which suits you the best and lets you speak freely through it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to work. If you are not sure which activity is the best one for you, take a look at the following ideas:

1. Music
Whether you enjoy singing, composing, or just listening to lyrics that speak to you, there is nothing as good as music to help you deal with your emotions in a positive way. Music reflects something profound about who we are and how we see the world. That is why music is such an effective way of expressing yourself and coping with difficult circumstances in your life. Whether you resonate with rap, heavy metal or classical music, the truth is that music is an extremely powerful vehicle for helping you become more aware and honest with yourself.
2. Dancing

There is no denying that dancing is a great form of exercise, but it can also be quite an effective form of expressing creativity. Dancing freely to beats and rhythms provides a medium for the release of pent up emotions. All you have to do is go to a place where you feel comfortable, turn on the music and let it move you. Don’t overthink it, just give yourself over to the music and feel it.

There is no need to spend a whole day thinking about a poetic way of conveying your feelings on a piece of paper, just a few lines a day in your journal can help you get rid of that negative energy you’ve built up over time. This can turn out to be quite a beneficial ritual of discovering your honest thoughts and feelings.
4. Drawing or Painting

When it comes to freedom of creative expression, there is nothing like drawing and painting. There is a great amount of styles you can try out in order to find the one which suits you the best. Don’t expect to be perfect as soon as you start. Allow yourself some time to practice and find a medium which will enable you to express yourself in the best possible way. You’d be surprised where your creativity can take you, as long as you stay persistent and don’t give up.

5. Interpersonally
If the emotions you are struggling with are tied to a specific person, the best way to tackle them is to have a healthy face-to-face conversation. Just remember that a good, productive conversation about feelings should never include the word ‘you’. The person might feel attacked or like they are the one to blame for the way you feel, which can often result in the opposite of the desired effect. Expressing your emotions in a passive way, by allowing the other person to speak and by listening to them is the key to a good and healthy conversation.

Once you’ve allowed your feelings to move through you in a safe and healthy way, you will feel better both physically and emotionally, and you will easily understand how to move forward.
