It's The Small Things

Now, more than ever, I feel like it is important to absorb all the positive things that are going on in life, no matter how big or small. It seems that the small things that bring joy in life or usually overlooked, especially on days that seem to have more downs than ups.

I know most people feel like February is their hump month they need to make it through, but for me, it always seems to be March. I honestly don’t get why people get so frustrated with the month of February…it’s the shortest month of the year, the weather is predictable, there’s always the hope for one last snow, and pink and red are basically the officially color of February. Then this March… it might be 70s one day and 40s the next, you never quite know how to dress, there is always a chance of rain, and it is like this weird limbo month between winter and spring.

Maybe I am a standing alone in my stance on March, but it really does give you an extra lift in spirit when you take not of the positive things, and usually when you start to notice one positive others always seem to follow. So here are a few of the small things I have noticed lately, that really do add up in the long run.

The smell of a new book

Fresh flowers {always and always}

An unexpected text from a friend

The sighting of blooms on trees

Turning on the television and finding your favorite movie is just getting ready to start

Dogs playing

Dog cuddles

A fresh, warm pizza with the perfect cheese to sauce ratio

Fresh bed sheets

The perfect seventy-degree day

The smell of fresh cut grass

Amazing Sales

Discovering a forgotten gift card

Warm cookies fresh out of the oven

The sound of rain right before you fall asleep

Listening to Rat Pack music

The feel of the sun on your back

Having a perfect eye liner day

Having a perfect hair day

Bringing a smile to another person’s face

My Current Favorites Under $100

I love spring fashion; the dresses, lightweight jackets, colors, pastels, and floral prints always makes my heart do a little flip. Confession: a good sale, deal, or a really great quality piece of clothing/fashion accessory/beauty product/etc. There are seriously so many great finds our there this year and I just couldn’t resist doing a quick round up of all my favorites under $100!

English Factory Eyelet Sleeve Ruffled Dress// I just ordered this dress a couple weeks ago and I absolutely love it. It’s transitional, simple, and has a detail sleeve to give the overall look a little pop!

Deepa Gurnani Taara Headband// I love the fact that headbands have been back for awhile and that it looks like they are here to stick around for a little while longer. I am such a sucker for floral prints and I love the floral detailing on this particular headband

J. Crew Puff-Sleeve Ribbed Sweater// I am such a fan of a well-done puff sleeve. It just always seems to add the perfect touch to an otherwise simple outfit

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Luxury Eyeshadow Palette// I love the soft color in the eyeshadow palette and Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup always stays on perfectly for hours on end

Lundon Leone Sunglasses// Is any spring or summer outfit complete without a good pair of sunglasses. In my opinion, these look and feel much more expensive than they are. Plus, I love the color and the design

Maeve Odyssea Smocked Mini Skirt// I honestly believe that a person can’t own too many black dresses, skirts, shorts, or pants. On those days where you don’t really feel like putting much of an effort into you look items like this skirt are the perfect thing to have. Classic, simple, polished.

Tretorn Nylite Sneakers// I still get a kick out of the fact that Tretorns have made such a strong come back. I have to confess… they really do look fantastic with dresses and jeans.

Tory Burch Kira Enameled Slider Bracelet// I just love bracelets in general, and ones like these are just so easy to slide on and keep on for everyday wear

Altar’d State Revival Leopard Leggings// These leggings are seriously like the best kept secret. I love the weight of the fabric, the print, color, and fit. Not to mention the price of these is such a steal

Pomander Place Puff Short Sleeve Crewneck// I came across this brand last year and all of their things are such amazing quality at such a reasonable price. Now, lets face facts, is there ever such a thing as too many puff sleeve shirts?

Spring Inspiration

I wasn’t ready for the cold weather to leave, but now that the days are a little brighter, longer, and warm, I am so glad that the days of spring are starting to make their appearance. Over the years fall and spring have two of my favorite seasons. They each have their own distinct fragrance, add a splash of color to the world, and I feel like each are symbolic on a few levels, but mainly they represent just how warm, inviting, and beautiful changes in life can be.

Another thing I obviously love about spring is the fashion. I know yellow is supposed to be the pantone color of the year, but I will always be a blue girl at heart, and there is plenty of blues out there this year, so get ready for an overload…

Netflix & Chill

Normally I do pretty well with a time change, but after one day I am dragging in such a major way. I honestly feel like I’ve had like three cups of sleepy time tea today and all I want to do is pull the classic ‘Netflix and Chill’ routine.

Lately, I feel like Netflix has really been on their A-game with the movies and the original series they have recently released. I’m still in awe of the Queen’s Gambit; it is one of the few books to movies/TV series that I actually think is better than the actual book. Since this week is probably a little bit of a down week for everyone with the time adjustment I thought I would share a few of my current Netflix favorites!

I Care A Lot

I love Rosamund Pike, she is such a great actor, and a little random, but she has aged so well. Seriously doesn’t look a day older since she played the leading role in gone girl like seven year ago.

Pike plays a corrupt legal guardian who drains the savings of her elderly wards and sales all of their valuable possessions. She finally meets her match when her newest ward has interesting ties to criminal activities. Has you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.

Ginny & Georgia

This series is a fun watch accompanied by an entertaining amount of drama. The series centers around fifteen year old Ginny and her thirty something year old mother. They play off of each other so well and it just makes for good television.

Yes Day

If you are a long time reader, then you know that I am such a fan of Jennifer Garner. She just seems so upbeat and friendly and like she could be anyone’s best friend. Her newest movie, Yes Day, is more geared towards a younger audience or a good option for family movie night, but with everything that’s gone on this past year sometimes it’s fun to watch a happy go-lucky escape movie, and this one definitely hits that mark.

Firefly Lane

I love, love, love Kristin Hannah books. She is always able to create the most captivating characters and story lines. Ironically, Firefly Lane was the first book I read of hers {back in the early 2000s} and maybe it had something to do with my age I wasn’t that taken with her writing… However, I completely fell in love with her when I read the Nightingale years later {highly recommend if you haven’t read this one yet}.

Despite not originally being too taken with the book, I actually really liked the Netflix series. I have my fingers crossed for a season 2. In the meantime, I seriously need to give the book another chance.

The Silence

Fair warning, this movie is slightly weird/sci-fi-ish, but the storyline is really well developed, and I love Stanley Tucci, he’s such a fantastic actor. Plus, whenever I see him in something I automatically want to watch the Devil Wear Prada {which is completely different from this movie}. If you’re in the mood for suspense, this is definitely a movie for you.

The Great British Baking Show

Confession, I have a love-hate relationship with The Great British Banking Show… and yes, I realize that some people even have watch parties for this particular show, so maybe not the most popular opinion. I either find this show super relax and the hosts charming and entertaining, or I find a couple of the hosts annoying… Right now I am in a love phase with this particular show. Baking, English accents, a couple goofy hosts to balance the serious judges, completely up my alley right now. I’ve watched so many episodes the past few nights a part of me want to fake a British accent and go bake in a tent.

Links I'm Loving

Cannot believe that this weekend is the weekend that we all spring forward… I have conflicting feelings about {such a small thing, I know} 1) are we really in our third month of 2021 and 2) I’m kind of not ready for spring… I usually am, but the past year has just been so weird it’s been kind of nice having a few cozy months by the fire. Spring is always beautiful though… I still secretly have my fingers crossed for one last snowfall… For now though, here are a few links I am loving from this past week!

One// Totally Clingy Dog

This is 100% my dogs at the moment. As humans, we may not have always enjoyed the limits the pandemic placed on our lives, but our dogs have without a doubt very much enjoyed the season of Covid, and this video is so spot on.

Two// Serena & Lily Sale

Serena & Lily lands in my top 5 favorite home goods website that is out there. All of their things are just so perfect and beautiful, offering anything from hand towels to furniture. This weekend you can receive 20% off the entire website with code NEWLEAF

Three// Stuffed Bell Peppers

This is one of my all time favorite recipes. I usually thing of stuffed peppers as being a little on the heavy side, but these are super light and healthy, plus, it’s a very easy recipe

Four// Yes Day

I feel like Jennifer Garner is everyone’s best friend that they just haven’t met yet. She always seems so happy, nice, and upbeat, and lets not forget to mention how fun her Instagram is! Her new movie, ‘Yes Day’, was just released on Netflix and it is such a fun, lighthearted watch

Five// Peach Fallon Dress

I just discovered the Pomander Place brand last year, and I absoutly love everything I have purchased from them so far. All of their things are so reasonably priced, flattering, and fantastic quality. I love the color and fit of this particular dress! Runs true to size

My Current Favorite Night Time Beauty Products

Does anyone else find a nighttime routine oddly relaxing? Lately I have been trying to take better care of myself. At the end of 2019/a decent portion of 2020 I was so wrapped up in this and that, then I could not believe a pandemic had descended upon the world, and I was honestly just really overwhelmed and let some self-maintenance fall to the wayside.

Towards the end of 2020 I got pretty into the whole “self-care” thing {why not?}, and a good nighttime routine has become on of my favorite things I do to benefit myself, aesthetically. For me personally, I have found that it helps me to unwind at night and I actually sleep better. So, without further delay, here are my current favorite nighttime beauty products!

Bioderma Micellar Water Make-Up Remover

I started using this particular makeup remover about two years ago, and haven’t looked back since. It’s super gentle on my skin and removes makeup like magic

Shiseido Cotton Pads

Fact – Shiseido cotton pads are the best cotton pads out there {at least that I know of}. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like some cotton pads have a scratchy texture to them and the makeup whips I have tried so far are too rough on my skin. As you probably have guessed I use these pads with my makeup remover

Fresh Soy Face Exfoliator

This Exfoliatior is great follow up after using the makeup remover to cleanse your face of any makeup residue that may be left over

Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash

I usually just use this in the morning, but sometimes if I feel a little extra grimey, I also use this at night just to feel extra refreshed

Fresh Rose Face Mask

I just started using this rose facemask again, and I honestly forgot how much I love it. It smells fabulous and you can use it everyday

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Eye Rescue

If you haven’t tried Charlotte Tilbury’s magic creams, you seriously need to, ASAP. I love the consistency of it and the fact that none of her creams have that greasy texture to them.

Fresh Lotus Antioxidant Daily Moisturizer

Confession: I am kind of a face cream hopper. Right now I am using the Lotus Antioxidant Daily Moisturizer by Fresh. Incase you can’t tell, I am currently really into beauty products made by Fresh. All of their products always smell so good and I love how they seem to use all natural ingredients.

Rose Quartz Roller

When the Rose Quartz Roller first rose to popularity I honestly thought it was going to be some hyped up, overrated product. I mean honestly, how much of a difference can rolling a stone on your face make? Turns out a good amount of difference. Personally for me, I have noticed that it really decreases facially puffiness and it helps out with sinuses so much during allergy season.

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm

I have been using Burt’s Bees Lip Balm Since about the sixth grade, and have tried out a few others, but at the end of the day I always return to Burt’s…

Hempz Natural Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Body Cream

Back in 2019, for a while I got super into the whole CBD movement. So, of course I had to try out Hemp Whipped body cream… It quickly became my most favorite body cream; I love the silky texture the lotion has and it dries in reasonably fast

Slip Silk Scrunchies 6 Pack

I am not someone who washes their hair everyday… it’s thick, naturally curly, takes about a full hour to blow dry. For that reason I try to get as many days out of my hair as I can before I have to wash it again. I have found that sleeping with it in a bun really does help to keep it clean a little longer and it makes it so much easier to touch it up the following day. These silk scrunchies are my favorite because they don’t tend to pull my hair in a weird place and they don’t leave a line.

Slip Silk Pillowcase

I just recently started sleeping on a silk pillowcase again, and I don’t know why I ever stopped. My face actually feels fresher in the morning and my hair doesn’t have any fly always. Added bonus, silk pillowcases prevent wrinkles and ageing!

February Reading List

February felt like the longest month ever, 2021 has already felt like a long year… and usually I am ready to welcome the warm weather with open arms, but this year, the idea of spring is kind of depressing for me, because that is the year marker of knowingly living with Covid. On the upside, we know have a vaccine, some things are returning to normal, and hopefully there will be a light at the end of the tunnel soon. In the meantime, here is a roundup of all the books I read in February!

Cobble Hill, by Cecily von Ziegesar

For those of you who were in middle or high school during the early 2000’s, then chances are that you probably read the Gossip Girl series, before it was even a book. I was actually super excited to read Cobble Hill since it is written by the same author as Gossip Girl… I hate to say it, and maybe my expectation level was too high, but this book honestly fell a little short for me.

Cobble Hill centers around an eclectic Brooklyn neighborhood, and follows the lives of three of the families who live in the neighborhood, and the drama that goes on within their everyday lives

The Queen’s Gambit, by Walter Tevis, Amy Landon

I don’t say this about many books/ books that have been made into movies, but I actually like the Netflix series better than the book. I listened to The Queen’s Gambit on Audible, and the narration was fantastic, and maybe it’s because I saw the series first, and there weren’t many changes that were made from the original version, but it was enough where you might favor one over the other.

All We Ever Wanted, by Emily Giffin

Just on a personal level, this book was so fun to read, because it’s set in Nashville and it was fun seeing places, streets, landmarks, etc. that I recognized.

This book demonstrates the impact one picture can have in the day of modern day technology, the thought process of those from different backgrounds, and how everything comes into focus

Sugar Rush, by Donna Kauffman

This was such a fun light-hearted book to listen to on audio; if you need an escape from the news, etc. I highly recommend this book.

Leilani left her job as a chef in NYC to return home to her hometown of Sugarberry, Georgia to be closer to her father. However, her past manages to follow her down South… Her old boss, Baxter Dunn {aka Chef Hot Cakes}, wants to film his popular cooking show in her brand new bakery, and let just say that cakes are not the only thing getting cooked up in the kitchen!.

After Leilani leaves NYC Chef Dunn realizes his true feelings for her and realizes he much have her back in his life, but convincing her is another story.

A Man Called Ove, by Fredrik Backman

At the end of last year I read Anxious People and Backman has the ability to take things that should now be funny, at all, funny. Backman does not disappoint with A Man Called Ove, and yes, humor is added to a subjected matter that again, should not be funny.

Behind Ove’s cranky exterior is a man in morning over the loss of his wife. All Ove wants to do is go be with his wife and keeps making failed attempts in the efforts of doing so. However, a new neighbor with two chatty girls, a stay cat, and unexpected friendship interfere with these attempt. A funny and heartwarming story.

It's All About The Tulle

Maybe Covid has been going on a touch too long, or maybe I’ve watched one too many episodes of sex and the city, but I am really loving tulle skirts right now. Earlier today when I ordered one, my mom and my sister asked me if I was trying to look like a Disney princess… I mean, is that really a bad thing? I responded ‘yes’. Then I thought maybe we could all use a little whimsical Disney magic in our life right now with the help of a tulle skirt.

In my opinion, they can be dressed up or down, and are a rather versatile article of clothing. So… I thought I would do a little roundup of some of my favorite tulle skirts that are currently available!
