Guest Post :: How To Look Chic During The Summer Heat

I have been completely melting in the summer heat lately, seriously, when is fall finally going to arrive?! In the meantime, believe it or not, we still have a few hot weeks ahead of us. There is however an upside, summer fashion is soooo on point this year! Peter Minkoff is sharing a few tips on how to look chic during the summer heat.
Whether you’re spending the hot and humid summer months in the city or you’re planning a long tropical getaway during your summer vacation, there’s no denying that dressing for the scorching heat presents its own set of challenges. If you’re anything like most girls, all you want to do is wear your awful old tank top and a pair of rugged denim shorts, because everything even remotely fashionable seems impossible in this heat. However, you should never have to sacrifice your style in the horrible summer heat. So, here’s what to wear when it’s too hot to wear anything:

Cute crop tops

Light, breezy and very breathable, crop tops might be the best option for unbearable summer heat. They can easily look chic and fashionable, with updates like ruffles, nice fabrics and subtle prints, and they can even be paired with high-waisted trousers and skirts for work-appropriate outfits. However, if showing more skin during the summer isn’t for you, sleek, flowing tank tops in lightweight materials, such as cotton and linen, are a great alternative.
Breezy culott
When the temperatures are so high, the last thing you want to think about are trousers. However, sometimes you have to dress up for work and you don’t want to go through the hassle of wearing a structured dress every day. That is where culottes come in– trousers that are as cool as the weather is hot. They are very airy and breathable, they don’t cling to your skin, and they give you enough room to move around freely, making them the perfect alternative to trousers on hot summer days.

Lightweight skirts

While shorts might seem like the obvious option, they often tend to cling to your skin and create an annoying and uncomfortable situation. That is why flowy skirts might be the best option for such scorching summer heat, especially those in an A-line or skater style. Whether you choose a cute miniskirt for casual everyday looks or an elegant midi skirt for the office and fun nights out, this item can easily be dressed up or dressed down for any occasion, and it’s perfect for keeping you cool during the summer heat.

Airy sundresses

Lightweight, breezy and stunningly feminine, sundresses are the ideal outfit option for hot and humid summer days. As long as you choose one that is comfortable and versatile enough, such as an amazing Realisation Par dress, you can easily dress it up with a pair of heels for the office or a night on the town, or keep it casual with a pair of sneakers and sandals for a cute everyday outfit. From linen blazers and sleek leather totes to sparkly clutches and statement jewelry pieces, you can pair a chic sundress with almost anything you own to create an incredibly fashionable summer look.

Straw hats

When you spend a lot of time outdoors during the summer, hats are one of the most important accessories. They protect you from the harmful sunrays, so that you don’t depend solely on the sunscreen that can easily sweat off in the heat. However, baseball caps and hats made out of thicker materials can get very hot very quickly. That is why a straw hat is the perfect solution. It’s light and breezy, and it provides adequate protection, while still taking your outfit to the next level and making you feel nice and cool.

Chic slides

Slides are without a doubt summer’s most fashionable shoe. Not only are they very easy to put on and take off, with no annoying straps and buckles, but they won’t overheat your feet like some mules and ballet flats would. The pain of sweaty feet in the summer is familiar to all of us, and a chic pair of slides will completely avoid that problem. But apart from the practicality, sleek slides are also very versatile, and they can easily take you from brunch with your girlfriends to the beach, making them the ultimate summer shoes that can complement any outfit.
These incredible tips will keep you cool and refreshed, so that you can go about your day without a worry in mind, while helping you navigate the hotter temperatures in style.

My Current Favorite Beauty Products

The year I turned 25 I went through a quarter life crisis in a major way. It hit me all the sudden that I was have way to 50 and I became completely obsessed with beauty products and anti-age prevention {a little shallow…I know…}

Ever since I have fallen in love with trying out new products ever so often. In all honesty, the year that the charcoal facemask was a big thing I was a little hesitant to try it, but I can honestly say there are a lot of diamonds in the rough out in the cosmetic world.

This summer I have been tempted to try a few new beauty products and thought it might be fun to share a few that I have absolutely loved using!
Goop Glow// This is probably my most favorite product I have come across. I’m not a hundred percent sure if it works, but I feel like it does. It is a skin care drink that works from the inside out and is packed with vitamins. I can’t quit put my finger on it, but it taste like a drink from the 90’s in a very good way.

Sephora Bubble Mask// fair warning, when I get out of the shower I usually spritz a little rose water on my face, and you definitely do not want to do that if you are going to use this mask, it will make your skin feel a little uncomfortable if you do… I not only love using this mask because of the packaging and the fact that it bubbles, but it makes your skin look amazing almost right away!

Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Sleep Mask// If you ever go through a dry skin period this is the mask for you. It’s a two step mask and my two favorite things about it is that it can be used with other beauty products and you can sleep with it on all night long!

Sephora collection Cleansing & Exfoliating Wipes Coconut Water// Is there anyone else out there who gets stuck on one beauty product and is completely in disbelief when it is discontinued? For so long I used the Sephora Rose Water makeup wipes which were recently discontinued {I still have my fingers crossed that they come back…}. This little situation forced me to try a new makeup wipe and I have to say I am loving the Coconut Water wipes!

Lip Balm and Scrub// Confession: I bought this product by accident thinking it was a lip balm, but I ended up loving it. The idea of using a scrub on my lips always made me a little uncomfortable, but it is actually amazing! Strongly recommend trying a lip scrub!

Summer Pajamas

Does anyone else randomly have a pajama crisis in the middle of summer or am I the only one? Confession: I usually stock up on pajamas during the holiday season, because let’s be honest, that is when stores break out their strongest pajama game.
This year I was a little late on the stock-up and by the time I got around to it the selection was pretty low… luckily, the summer pajama game is pretty cute for the summer!

Guest Post :: 5 Style Mistakes No Bridesmaid Should Make

I just recently got engaged so when Peter Minkoff wanted to write a wedding related post I was super excited! Right now I am leaning towards only having my sister in my wedding, but it is definitely an exciting time and it is always exciting to be invited to be in a wedding. So for today here are the five style mistakes no bridesmaid should make!
Being asked to be a bridesmaid is something many girls enjoy and are happy about. It is usually your best friend, and it is a perfect occasion to look great and have a good time. If the bridesmaid dresses are not all the same, you can incorporate a bit of your style in the outfit, but make sure you don’t make these common mistakes.

Wearing Mini, Provocative Dresses

Unless the bride specifically asked for this type of dress (which we doubt), you should stay away from mini, revealing dresses, especially if they are too tight as well. Firstly, it is not an appropriate wedding attire for any guest, but you as a bridesmaid want to look a certain way. The best choice, you can't go wrong with are midi dresses because they allow you to play with patterns, prints, and length. A knee-length body dress will look amazing, regardless of it being tight. Or if you want something a bit lighter, an empire waist dress can be a great option for a bridesmaid.

Avoid Dresses Similar To A Wedding Dress

Needless to say, a wedding is the most important day for the bride and the groom, so naturally, they should get all the attention. If for example the theme of the wedding is light colors, and you show up in a maxi, white dress it wouldn't be fair to the bride. This is why, if you are wearing light colors, make sure they are not pure white, and that the dress doesn’t have many similarities with a true wedding gown. This means, without much lace, pearls or glitter. You can be creative here and get a jumpsuit, which will clearly not be the bride’s outfit choice and add an interesting belt to make it more stylish.

Heavy Makeup And Hair

Along those lines of not stealing the attention from the bride, it is worthwhile mentioning to keep it nice and simple. This means no heavy makeup or complex hairstyles. Keep it natural and soft, especially if you don’t know what the bride’s makeup and hair are going to look like. Unless it’s her desire, don’t use accessories in your hair, and if you think that is a good option, you can suggest it to the bride, and have all bridesmaids wear it. Loose waves, or straight hair, even a high pony tale are good options for a hairstyle. As long as the makeup goes, you can’t really be that wrong.

Not Respecting The Bride’s Wishes

If a bride has a certain dress code, she wants you to follow, respect that wish. It is her wedding, and she gets to choose that. If the dress happens to not be your style, try to compensate in another way, like picking your jewelry or shoes. After all, you are there to help the bride with everything, so you should also be thoughtful about outfits. But we are sure you won't have any problems since most brides today choose gorgeous dresses for their bridesmaids as well.

Not Speaking Up

We mentioned multiple times that you should respect the bride's wishes. However, sometimes you may feel uncomfortable in a dress that she has picked. It is important to speak up and say that, and see if you can make a deal with the bride, to choose something you feel more comfortable in. Most brides just want everyone to be happy and cheerful, so this will probably not be a problem. And it is important to you because you will be able to relax and help her and everyone else enjoy the magical day. So, if something bothers you, find a compromise with the bride.
Being a bridesmaid makes you feel so happy and special. If you want your friend’s wedding to be just perfect, follow the tips we gave here are you can’t go wrong. After all, you can be creative in every outfit and add something of your style.
