Sunday Night Thought

For Him Gift Guide

I honestly feel like men are the hardest people to gift shop for… There are endless things you can get for the women in your life: clothes, jewelry, hair accessories, regular accessories, handbags, clutches, shoes, and the list can go on and on, but men… men always seem to be a little bit more of a challenge to shop for.

Since the shopping days are quickly winding down, I made sure everything included in this gift guide is either eligible for 2-day or overnight shipping or can easily be found at a store nearby. So, for anyone other there who is in search of a little last minute ‘gifts for him’ inspiration, here is my For Him Gift Guide! Happy Shopping!

One// Marine Layer Knox Cream and Black Iris Fairisle Sweater

I have no clue why, but I just love a fairisle sweater – timeless and classic. Love how the color combo of this particular one allows for it to be worn from early fall to early spring

Two// Ralph Lauren Single-Wick Bedford Candle

I love the color and the scent of this candle. Honestly, this would make a wonderful gift for any man in your life!

Three// Bose Soundlink Micro Bluetooth Speaker

Men and the tech toys… am I right, or am I right? In all seriousness, I would absolutely use these speakers for myself. Bose is such a high quality brand, and maybe it is just me, but I honestly feel like their speakers sound better than any other speaker

Four// Smeg Basic Fully Automatic Coffee Machine

When it comes to kitchen appliances, Kitchen Aide and Smeg are by far my two favorite kitchen appliance companies. I just love the retro flair Smeg products seem to have about them. Personally, I’m not a coffee person, and honestly know nothing about coffee machines, but as far as looks go… I feel like this looks like a perfect coffee maker for your dad, brother, significant other. Plus, the quality of Smeg products are just amazing!

Five// Smathers and Branson Needlepoint Belt

In my honest opinion, I feel like every man needs to own at least one needlepoint belt, and Smathers and Branson seems to dominate the market of needlepoint belts. Seriously a can’t go wrong gift!

Six// Mark & Graham Beckett Waxed Canvas and Leather Tech Folio

I feel like this is the perfect ‘man’ accessory. Love the color of the leather, and it would be so great for either work or travel!

Personally, I have not read this book yet, but everyone I know who has read ‘The Lincoln Highway’ just seems to love this book! A wonderful gift for the man who loves to read

Nine// Ralph Lauren Reversible Check Scarf

Ralph Lauren makes the most timeless clothing pieces. I could seriously live in one of his stores – they are just amazing! Can you get anymore classic than a Buffalo plaid scarf? This would just look beautiful with a black coat!

Ten// On Cloud Terry Sneakers

It seems like On Runs came completely out of left field about three or so years ago, and basically became popular overnight. I feel like this is a 100% can’t go wrong gift

Eleven// Jack Black It’s the Balm Set

Even though this is technically a men’s product line, I have to say, I love their lip balms, and actually use them for myself… black tea is hands down my favorite. This would be such a great stocking stuffer type gift or just a little extra something to pair with another gift

Twelve// Barbour Tartan Hip Flask and Cups Gift Set

This is the most attractive flask and cups set I have ever seen. This is the perfect gift for a man of any age, or more specifically, any man 21 or older…

Thirteen// KJP Whale and Anchor Socks

I always love the fun prints and designs Kiel James Partrick creates for their sock line. After all, socks are basically sweaters of the feet, so why not have a little fun. These are perfect for the man in your life

Fourteen// Apple TV 4K

Even though men can be a bit of a challenge to shop for {or, at least that is the case for me} I have found that any gift that is tech related is almost, always a win.

Links I'm Loving

Confession, I am in slight denial that Christmas is exactly a week from today. Honestly, why does time seem to be going by so quickly this year? For the next week I fully plan to watch as many Christmas movies and listen to as much Christmas music as I can for the next few days.

One// Tuckernuck Inspired by The Holiday

Even though The Holiday was released in 2006, I feel like the clothes and home décor used to create the movies is timeless. I love the outfits in this movie, especially Cameron Diaz’s character’s wardrobe. The fact that Tuckernuck has dedicated a section their website for the moment of outfits inspired by The Holiday is completely fabulous, in my opinion.

Two// Fresh Crab Nachos

I just came across this recipe today, and I now have the worst craving for nachos. I have never had crab nachos before, but these look absolutely delicious and reasonably easy to make. Plus, it’s pretty much a well-known fact that any recipe by Ina Garten is garneted to be amazing!

Three// Comfort & Joy, by Kristin Hannah

Kristin Hannah has such a beautiful writing style and a fantastic way of developing characters throughout her stories, and I just love all her books I have read thus far. I just recently learned that at some point she wrote a holiday book… definitely planning to read this one in the near future!

Four// Mi Golondrina Resort Collection

I ordered my first Mi Golondrina dress about three years ago and have been a fan ever since. They just released their resort collection today, and everything is just stunning! I

Five// Shopbop for Men

Is it just me, or are men notoriously hard to shop for? I know time is winding down to get all your Christmas shopping done, but I plan to come out with a ‘For Him’ gift guide very soon… in the meantime though, Shopbop’s men’s section is a great resource for gift shopping!

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Does anyone else remember the ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ books that were super popular in the late 90’s? They were literally at every bookstore, grocery store, etc.; for a period, they were basically a household must have. The other night when I was making chicken noodle soup, I was thinking about that book, and the fact that chicken soup really is good for the soul. Honestly, is there anything better than homemade chicken noodle soup on a cold winter’s night?

The whole process of the soup simmering away on the stove top and the aroma of the herbs is comforting in and of itself. This chicken noodle soup is so easy to make, keeps for five days {longer if you freeze the soup}, and you will definitely have plenty for leftover throughout the week.

Since Christmas is just around the corner people tend to spend a little more time at home around this time of year, I thought it would be the perfect time to share this recipe! I used Averie Cooks Easy 30-Minute Homemade Chicken Soup as the catalyst for my own chicken noodle soup recipe, and have changed a few thing. But here is a chicken noodle soup recipe to bring a little comfort to your soul!

Ingredients:

3 Chicken breasts

4 tsp Lemon juice

2 sliced lemons

1 tsp Lemon-pepper seasoning

½ tsp paprika

5 Tbs butter

Sliced Lemon

2 Tbs olive oil

2 cups carrots, diced

2 cups diced celery

1 large yellow onion, diced

4 cloves garlic, minced

20 cups of low-sodium chicken broth {or (5) 32oz boxes of Swanson’s low-sodium chicken broth}

4 bay leaves

1 tsp fresh thyme, plus 2 twigs of unstripped thyme

1 tsp dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

12 ounce linguine noodles {or whichever pasta you prefer}

5 Tbs flat leaf parsley, minced

1 freshly squeezed lemon

Instructions:

1.     Follow this chicken recipe, but add 4 tbs of butter to the top of the chicken and lay lemon slices over chicken before placing in oven. Since the chicken is being used for soup, I also suggest you leave off the garlic powder and salt

2.    Once chicken is finished shred the chicken using two forks. Place shredded chicken in a storage container and pour the juices for the baking dish over the chicken. Place lid on storage container and store in refrigerator overnight.

3.    Using a large Dutch oven or stock pot add 2 tbs of olive oil and 1 tbs of butter and warm on medium-low heat

4.    Once the butter has melted, make sure bottom of pot is evenly coated with olive oil and butter before adding the diced carrots, celery, and onion to the pot. Sauté for about 15 minuets {or until vegetable of tender} with the top on, stirring occasionally. Add in minced garlic and sauté for another 2 minutes

5.    Once vegetables are tender add 10 cups of low-sodium chicken broth, 4 bay leaves, 1 tsp thyme plus the 2 twigs of unstripped thyme, oregano, about 1 ½ tsp of black cracked pepper, and bring to a boil. Allow mixture to boil for about 5 minutes. Add another 5 cups of low-sodium chicken broth and bring mixture back up to a boil

6.     Break the linguine noodles in half, by warping a buddle of dried noodles tightly in a dish cloth and breaking in half while wrapped up tightly. Then add the linguine noodles to the soup. Boil noodles for about 15 minutes, or until noodles are cooked through

7.     Add another 5 cups or low-sodium chicken broth and bring mixture back up to a boil. Then add the shredded chicken from the night before and any liquid left in the container that may have congealed overnight {it’s like a flavor bomb for the soup}, add in 5 tbs of freshly minced parsley, and the juice of 1 lemon. Boil soup for about another 2 minutes. If your noodles have absorbed some liquid and you would like a higher liquid level, be sure to add some more chicken broth at this point. Lastly season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve and enjoy!

For Her Gift Guide

I am in slight disbelief that a week from Saturday Christmas will be well underway. Thankful 2-day and overnight shipping is available on basically every website possible, and most stores have extended their hours so we can easily mark those last few items off our holiday shopping list!

I say this about basically every gift guide I put together, but the ‘for her’ gift guide is my most favorite gift guide to put together. I always come across so many great items, and even give into the temptation of a few of them… but hey, as long as you’re gifting others, you might as well treat yourself to a few items… right? This year there are so many great gifts out there and here are just a few that would be perfect for the ‘her(s)’ in your life!

One// Hill House Nap Dress Starter Gift Kit

The Nap Dress Nation is a thing for a reason. I actually purchased this gift set for myself as I was putting together this gift guide. This set is an amazing deal and a great way to introduce a friend or family to the nap dress, treat yourself, or simply help an existing nap dress fan build their collection!

How perfect are these shoes for the holiday season? After all, everyone needs a little sparkle in their life!

Three// Dyson Prussian Blue Supersonic Hair Dryer Gift Edition

Pretty sure this is the best hair dryer in the world right now. Amazing product and this new color combination Dyson just released is simply beautiful!

Four// Tory Burch T Monogram Jacquard Shoulder Bag

I’m usually not a fan of bag that have the brand logo all over them {personal preference}, but I am completely crushing on this one. The color combination makes it easy to use year-round and it looks fabulous on!

Five// Ralph Lauren: In His Own Fashion

Does anyone else have a favorite plaid… My is blackwatch, so obviously I feel like this coffee table book is an amazing home décor item!

I feel like these have become a winter staple. The design of them is just so cute and right now you can receive 25% off with code JOYFUL at checkout!

Seven// Canada Goose Rossclair Parka

I feel like I see Canada Goose coats everywhere, and for good reason. I love how this style is a bit more polished and the array of colors it comes in.

Eight// Dudley Stephens Cobble Hill Turtleneck

This might sound like an overstatement, but everyone needs a Dudley Stephens Turtleneck in their life. The Cobble Hill is a favorite of mine, because the fit is just perfect, and you can wear it with leggings!

Nine// Glossier Ultralip

Hi, new fan of Glossier lipstick. I love their cloud paint, so I don’t know why I waited so long to try their lipstick. Their tints are just perfect and such a fun little gift for anyone

Ten// Chappy Wrap Window Pane Plaid Grey Blanket

This the season to be cozy and Chappy Wraps are the definition of cozy. This particular print is just such a classic and so neutral

Eleven// Bala 1 Pound Bala Bangles

I have not tried this product yet, but have heard so many great reviews and I literally see them everywhere. Perfect for that person in your life who loves to workout!

Twelve// Golden Goose Superstar Sneakers

I used to seriously wonder what all the hype about Golden Goose sneakers I was about, and now I know. They are a big of a splurge, but 100% worth it!

Favorite Christmas Movies

The holiday season is without a doubt a season of tradition. For me it honestly doesn’t even feel like the holidays without certain activities, decorations, classic holiday food, and of course, those classic Christmas movies.

Confession: I watch Christmas movies even when it isn’t the holiday season… I just love how they are all such feel good movies and can always lift my spirits after a long day. I have been obsessively watching Christmas movies since the day after Halloween. Even if it is just for background noise, I still love hearing the movie scores and the catching classic lines from each movie. When I am actually able to sit down and watch some of my favorite movies all the way through, it feels like a warm blanket of memories has been draped over my shoulders.

If you are in need of a bit of Christmas Spirit, here are some of my favorite Christmas movies!

White Christmas// Full disclosure, between November and the first few weeks of January I watch White Christmas at least once a week. Honestly, is it even the Christmas season without Bing Crosby singing ‘White Christmas’…

The Family Stone// I know most would consider this a seasonal movie, but I watch it all year round. I just love the cast of this movie, the story line, and the characters. It’s fantastic

It’s A Wonderful Life// My family has two traditions on Christmas Eve 1) Read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and 2) Watch ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’. I love the overarching message of the movie and I am not ashamed to admit that Jimmy Stewart is my ultimate movie star crush.

Elf// I remember the first time I saw this movie, and I remember thinking when the open scene focused in on Papa Elf, I knew right away that it was going to be a movie I would love for years to come.

Home Alone// I think I was five when this movie came out, and I still remember going to the movies, my dad completely dreading sitting through this movie, and now, years later, my entire family still loves this movie. It has become a ‘classic’ Christmas movie for good reason!

Miracle on 34th Street// I know some may have different opinions about the statement I am about to make, but I much prefer the 1990’s remake over the original, even though they are both fantastic! This movie is basically the ultimate Christmas classic

Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation// My dad hates when anyone in my family says this, but when he was younger, he looked a little like Chevy Chase, especially when he wore his plaid shirts, vest, and glasses. I feel like one of the main reasons this movie is so funny is because it is relatable in many ways.

The Polar Express// This movie is just the embodiment of Christmas magic! The animation is incredible and the music is just next level.

Stocking Stuffer Gift Guide

I always love putting together the stocking stuffer gift guide, or any gift guide for that matter. I used to love waking up on Christmas morning to a stocking next to my bed packed full of things that Santa had bought the night before. Sometimes it is the littlest items that bring the biggest smiles.

These are the type of gifts that can be given and received throughout the holiday season. It is such a fun way to show appreciation to friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. So be sure to pass on a little holiday spirit this Christmas season!

One// Lake Pima Long-Short Weekend Set in Classic Red

Love how the style of this pajama set make it perfect to wear now and perfect for those summer holidays. These are basically the softest pajamas out there. Would recommend sizing up one size

Two// Slip Celestial Nights Gift Set

I think it is safe to say, along with ballet flats, Audrey Hepburn also popularized sleeping masks as well. This is such a fun little night set and the embellishments just take it to the next level for it to be the perfect little something for a holiday happy

Three// Lele Sadoughi Imitation Pearl Cluster Scarf

For the longest time I thought that Lele Sadoughi was a company that only made headbands; recently I learned that they make a world of other fabulous things, such as this scarf. I love the classic feel it has to it with a fun little twist

Four// David Yurman Chatelaine Bracelet with Pearl

Obviously, this a little bit of a luxury stocking stuffer and probably better suited for a special family member, friend, or significant other. This is such a beautiful and timeless piece.

Every time J. Crew comes out with their holiday velvet bow line, I am completely smitten with them. Such a fun little extra to give along with another gift

The design of this hair barrette makes it so easy to wear with jeans and a t-shirt or to a formal event. Stunning hair accessory

November Reading List

I absolutely love this time of year; there always seems to be a little something extra special floating around in the air, and even with the hustle and bustle of everything and the stress the holiday can bring on cheer still seems to seep in through every corner of life. I can hardly believe that the next time I do a book roundup it will be January 2020… This year has seriously passed by in the blink of an eye! I’m definitely planning to take the time to slow down a little this holiday season, soak in moments, and hopefully make the season feel a little longer…. For now, though, here is a list of books I read during the month of November!

To be completely transparent, I had high hopes for this book, but it just wasn’t for me… but someone else might have a completely different opinion. Before I say anything about the storyline, I do feel obligated to will say that this book has multiple references to rape, sexual harassment, incest, infidelity, abuse, sexual assault, and some of these instances do involve children… And honestly, some really great literally usually do contain one or two of these elements, but this book is just overkill… some parts of this book truly just made me feel nauseated. If you are a person who has suffered sexual trauma, this might be a trigger book, so definitely proceed with caution.

In a nutshell this book is about a married mother of three who is going through a middle age crisis and comes from a family that perpetuates sexual abuse. I think this is the first negative book review I have ever written, and I usually do try to stay positive for the most part just because so much of someone’s soul goes into the writing process, but even without the factor of the abuse overkill, I felt like the book fell flat…

We Met in December, by Rosie Curtis

Not ashamed to say that the Christmas season always seems to make a seasonal reader out of me.

Last year I read One Day in December, by Josie Silver, and both books are equally good in their own rights, but they seem to mirror each other just slight {which definitely is not a bad thing. So, needless to say that if you enjoyed One Day in December.

On the verge of turning thirty Jess has rolled the dice and taken the chance to start a new career and live out her dream of moving to London. During the month of December, she moves into a house with a few other people, one of which is Alex, the man who shares her floor. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, but Jess is disappointed to discover that he has arrangements with another one of her housemates… Jess struggles to navigate her new friendship with the man of her dreams.

The Simplicity of Apple Cider, by Amy E. Reichert

I always love how Reichert seems to tie the storyline of all her books to some type of food item. The Simplicity of Apple Cider was a fun read, but The Coincidence of Coconut Cake remains my favorite Amy E. Reichert book.

Sanna Lund is part of a fifth-generation cider-maker who only wants to live a simple and peaceful life on her family’s apple orchard. A Single dad, Isaac, and his son are hired by Sanna’s father to help out over the summer. Sparks start to fly between Sanna and Isaac and a few turns of events lead to expected and unexpected outcomes.

Fun, lighthearted read; a solid 4/5 read

Winter Storms, by Elin Hilderbrand

Ever since reading Summer of 69 I have completely fallen in love with the writing style of Elin Hilderbrand. Just based off of the books I have read of hers, her storylines are always so well put together and all the characters seem to play a part in making the wheels of the story turn.

Winter Storms is the third book in the Winter Street series. I read this book in a day and a half – it’s that good! Then I turned right around and purchased the fourth book in the series. Obviously, I very highly recommend this book!

Nick and Noel’s Christmas Playlist, by Codi Hall

Full disclosure, I downloaded this book in Audible because it is included in my subscription and the audio cover is pretty cute. This book was honestly a little cliché and predictable, but still fun to listen to.

Nick and Noel have been childhood friends since birth and have managed to remain best friends even into adulthood. After serving his country for eight years Nick is finally returning home to stay. Upon arriving home, his long-term girlfriend breaks up with him… leaving him and Noel single at the same time with plenty of history and chemistry to maybe turn a friendship into just a little bit more.
