Guest Post :: 4 Ways To Keep Your Skin Moisturized All Day

For me, personally, I always seem to take better care of my skin in the summer, just because I’m more consciously focused on staying hydrated, using sunscreen {I’m so paranoid about sun damage!}, using face creams that have sun protection in them, and so on. The past couple of years I have started to understand the importance of taking care of your skin year round and the effects the different seasons take on your skin. For example, winter always seems to dry out my skin and I have come to realize the difference a good daily moisturizing cream can make and the importance of an occasional facemask. Today Cassy Hathaway is guest posting on the blog and sharing four great tips to keep your skin moisturized all day long!
Besides protecting it from sun damage, keeping your skin moisturized and well-hydrated is one of the foundations of good skincare. It’s what keeps your complexion healthy and glowing, plus sufficiently moisturized skin is less prone to showing premature signs of aging. Below are a few simple habits you might want to adopt to keep your skin hydrated and supple:

     1.      Keep an eye out for moisture-boosting ingredients.
Ceramides and hyaluronic acid are serious moisturizing powerhouses. Ceramides help repair the skin’s natural moisture barrier, while hyaluronic acid is capable of attracting water molecules from the air and binding them to your skin cells. Glycerin and dimethicone are well-known emollients that seal the moisture to your skin’s surface, preventing it from evaporating.
You can find these ingredients in all sorts of skincare products such as toners or moisturizers. CosRX’s One Step Moisture Up Pad is a convenient toner product that saves you from buying separate cotton pads and a step in your skincare routine. The pads are already presoaked in a toner made with propolis extract and hyaluronic acid that can help improve your skin’s texture with regular use.

     2.    Pad your diet with water-rich foods.
Moisturize from within by incorporating more water-dense fruits and vegetables into your daily meals, like watermelon, cucumber, peaches and lettuce. Snack on berries that provide additional antioxidants that help fight cancer-causing free radicals and brighten your complexion. Also, don’t forget to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day by getting your recommended daily intake of water, and steer clear of skin-drying drinks such as coffee and alcohol.

     3.    Start layering your skincare.
Your skin may feel slightly more parched depending on the time of the year and what the climate is like. When this happens, you may want to add a moisture-boosting product to your existing skincare routine, such as a hydrating serum or essence, or a moisturizing mask or sleeping pack. These products contain high concentrations of potent ingredients delivered right into your skin for an instant boost of moisture, and can also create a barrier that helps protect your skin from further moisture loss while you sleep.

     4.    Perform proper cleansing.
If you’ve been using all the right products but have yet to see visible results even though it’s been a while, it may be time to rethink your cleansing and exfoliating strategy. Dead skin cells, dirt and residue can accumulate on the surface of the skin, making it harder for your actives to penetrate into the layers where they can do the most good. If you haven’t yet gotten into the Korean habit of double-cleansing your face, you may want to look into it now. The idea is to use your first cleanse to remove your makeup, while the second dissolves leftover residue, leaving you with clean skin.

You can also look into sonic brushes that provide gentle cleansing without rubbing or pulling at the skin. Exfoliating helps accelerate cell turnover and renewal by sloughing off the surface of the skin to reveal the new skin underneath. You’ll want to do this regularly to keep your skin fresh.
It takes more than just a simple moisturizing formula to keep your skin well-hydrated and glowing. Follow these tips and make an effort to practice them every day — your skin will thank you for it.
