Cornerstones Of A Great Wardrobe

Sigh…if only we could all have a closet like Carrie Bradshaw’s – the size of that closet and all of the clothes that are in it and just amazing! I would have honestly used a picture of my own closet but it is in complete disarray at the moment, I could definitely use a Carrie size closet.
When trying to create the perfect wardrobe there is actually a good amount of things to take into account so that you will have a well rounded closet that reflects who you while at the same time giving you variety and always being prepared for different occasions. There is noting worse than realizing you are in a clothing rut or are unable to pull something out of your clothes to wear to a last minute event.

With the summer season drawing to a close and the time to rotate summer clothing to winter/fall it is the perfect time to take stock of what you have, what you need to get rid of, and what you might need to buy to give your wardrobe a little extra umph. I for one am planning on cleaning out my closet {I’ve been procrastinating a bit…} and selling what I no longer want/need on ebay.

To help you take stock and evaluate your closet here are a few things that I consider the basics for having a great and well-rounded wardrobe.

1.      Personality// A person’s style is always changing and evolving and every now and than you will find a style you love so much that it is a permanent fixture in your wardrobe. Your clothes should be a reflection of you and your current style. Remember, just because something is trending right now does not mean you have to fall into the trend if you feel that it does not fit your personality. It is good to experiment but you always want to feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing.
2.    Quality// Personality I would rather have a few really nice things than a whole lot of poor quality clothing, especially when it comes to pieces that are wardrobe staples. Wardrobe staples are an investment and are items you will have for years to come; don’t feel guilty about dropping a decent amount of money on a little black dress or classic trench, they will be well worth the investment.
3.    Variety// It’s good to have a closet that is a little Blair Waldorf and a little Serena Vanderwoodsen. Definitely have the classic and preppy pieces, but don’t be afraid to mix in some fun and trendy pieces to. No one wants to open a door and see a one-dimensional closet; variety is the spice of life!
4.    Versatile// Make sure you have multiple pieces of clothing that can basically work for any occasion under the sun with just a few accessories to give it the right vibe and make the outfit appropriate for the occasion. You never know when you might have to go to a last minute function.
5.    Functionality// No mater what you are wearing you want the piece to have a nice fit and flow and feel about it.
