I am rather excited about the
amount of snow Nashville is expected to have, after all two inches is considered
a lot of snow down here: Stores shut down, the milk at Kroger’s is already
gone, and schools are closed till at least Wednesday. Some of you might not of
heard of snow cream before, but it is a pretty popular Southern recipe, and
it’s made with actually snow! My great grandmother used to make snow cream and
it was the best thing in the world, but anything she made was delicious! I also
had a kindergarten teacher who used to sneak out of the school so she could
scoop a bunch of snow into wash bucket and bring it back to the classroom to
make some good old fashioned snow cream; I have to admit the South is probably
the only place where a room full of six years would be left unsupervised so the
teacher could go gather the ingredients needed to make snow cream. In the words
of Paula Deen snow cream “will make your tongue want to slap your brains out”
it’s so good, plus when you’re a child what could be better then being able to
eat snow. Below is Paula Deen’s recipe for some good ole fashioned Snow Cream.
Snow Ice Cream
8 cups snow {fresh preferably} or shaved iced
1 {14-ounce} can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Place snow {or shaved ice} into a large bowl. Pour condensed milk over and add vanilla.
Mix to combine. Serve immediately. {Yields 8 – 10 servings}
hmm snow ice cream - sounds interesting :)

DeleteI can't believe I live in the land of ice and snow and have never tried this. Perhaps I will make it tonight with a scoop of the 12 inches of snow on my balcony!

It's pretty tasty!
DeleteIt is weird to think that this isnt normal in other places! When we get snow in South Carolina this is the first thing we do! We actually set a bowl on top of a car so we can just catch the snow and not have to scoop it up!! If there is snow on the ground here we wouldnt be going to school for a week! Thats how rare snow is! :) But enjoy your snow and play in it for me!
ReplyDeleteLove always,
Elizabeth
