I am one
of “those people” that is forever cold, I am actually comfortable in the summer
minus the few days that it may get past 100°F. It is probably a given but when
the temperature starts to fall at the end of September/start of October I am
all about layering. I probably have more socks, tights, leggings, scarves,
coats, etc. then one person probably should have, but just because it’s cold
outside doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be stylish or have options!
I am
beyond thrilled that the layered look is again for this fall and winter season;
hello warmth! In order to layer like a pro there are a few key items that you
should probably have in your wardrobe. I think it is safe to say that it goes
without saying that skirts, dresses or better yet sweater dresses, and pants
are a must for the cooler months ahead.
For a
layered look I always enjoy a cross between preppy and trendy and well…
sometimes boho, because lets face it who doesn’t like a little Free People
Shopping adventure here and there. Below are my top ten key pieces for
layering!
A puffer vest is a wonderful
piece to have to throw on over a plaid shirt, oxford, or even a sweater. Plus a
puffer vest will keep you surprisingly warm!
Truth be told a black or navy
blazer would be a better staple layering piece to have just because those two
colors would go with basically everything, but how fabulous is the Regent
Blazer? For me a blazer is a perfect thing to wear over a sweater or button
down on those days when it is too warm for a coat but you need a little
something extra to keep you warm. A blazer is also a great investment – it’s a
classic piece and will never go out of style.
A regular length and long length
cardigan are both great to have. I usually wear the longer cardigans for
everyday life and have a few nice regular length cardigans to wear when I need
to be a little less casual.
Plaid shirts are such an iconic
fall/winter piece to have in your wardrobe. They go perfectly with literally
everything: puffers vests, cable-knits, blazers, or even just by themselves.
A cream color cable-knit sweater
is almost a must have for the winter; it is such a classic and timeless piece. This
sweater would look wonderful paired with a plaid shirt or even worn under a
blazer or puffer vest complete with a few layered necklaces.
Long-Sleeve shirts come in handy
and J. Crew’s Vintage Cotton Long-Sleeve tee is hands down my favorite
long-sleeve. It is perfect to wear under sweaters, by itself paired with a
scarf, or under a puffer vest.
Scarves in my opinion are the
best accessory and you can never have too many of them. They can basically be
worn with almost anything.
Leggings are great to wear under
dresses or skirts or by themselves with a sweater.
These tights are a lifesaver in
the winter when I need to wear a nice dress or skirt. They are honestly the
most comfortable tights I have ever worn and fit wonderfully.
During the fall and winter I
wear socks almost everyday, even when I wear tights. The only time I don’t have
on socks when it’s cold outside is when I am wearing ballet flats or heels.
Honestly they aren’t really a “key piece” for layering but I just have a love
for socks so I had to include a pair.
I love layering my outfit specially if its cold, and the best pieces for me are jackets and cardigans

DeleteI have tons of sweater dresses, as being from Spain means that what is a bit cold for other people is freezing for me jajajaja, so I´m always cold on winter too ;)

DeleteIn the colder months I usually layer a sweater on top of a dress or skirt. You've inspired me with the socks though. Hopefully I can find nice socks that show over my boots.

DeleteI love the idea of layering but when I lived back east I felt like my layering made me look bulky. I think I need to work on my technique
ReplyDeleteFor me personally I have found that the trick is to use sweaters that aren't super bulky when you're going to add a puffer or a blazzer.
