Everybody Rise

I have started and stopped reading Everybody Rise, by Stephanie Clifford, over the past few months. Either things kept popping up or got into a different, and I finally have gotten around to reading it all the way through and it is a fabulous read! My first thought when I finished the last page was ‘I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book!’.

For those of you who are Gossip Girl fans, Everybody Rise is without a doubt a book you will love. Just think Gossip girl first season - the main character, Evelyn, is very much the Jenny Humphrey and her new best friend, Camelia, is the Bee of the book.

Evelyn Beegen, a twenty-six year old who resides in NYC,. Always feeling like an outsider next to her privileged friends/peers she initially sets out to free herself of her social climbing mother who sent her off to prep school then onto the upper East Side. Evelyn lands a job at a social networking startup aimed to recruit high profile/high class members. Evelyn is left with no choice but to infiltrate the world that her mother so desperately wants her to be a part of.

Evelyn soon finds herself at society events, vacations homes, and experiences all the places the wealthy access. She is very quickly caught up in wealth, access, and influence of the new scene. Evelyn can’t resist to try to pass herself as old money, but as the saying goes, ‘oh, what a tangled web we weave when we try to deceive. Evelyn quickly loses who she is, gets tangled up in her own lies, and eventually has to journey back to her authentic self.

Everybody Rise, by Stephanie Clifford is a must read, especially for those of you who are a fan of Gossip Girl.
