55 South

Over the weekend I went with my family to 55 South to celebrate my father’s birthday. This was my first time to dine at 55 South; it’s not as close to where I live as some other restaurants, but the food was fabulous! Just to give you some back information on 55 South…the name refers to the interstate that connects Memphis and New Orleans; the menu reflects the food you would find traveling along that section of interstate. The owner of the restaurant graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. The overall restaurant has a very rustic Southern feel, to go along with the ambience the menu is made-up of delicious Southern comfort food.
The menu is displayed under the glass tabletop, so it is handy the whole time you dine.
The Lump Crab and Artichoke Dip was the best I have had since the summer; it is definitely the best I have had in Nashville. The lump crab and artichoke were perfectly mixed together with a little cheese melted on top. I really enjoyed how the corn chips were closer to the texture of pita chip and they weren’t over salted, which is a major plus in my book.
The Seafood Gumbo Soup contained the traditional Southern ingredients and I really like the kick of spiciness the soup had to it. It would be perfect on a cold day!
For the main course I ordered the Pimento BLT, mainly because it had two of my favorite things on it: pimento cheese and fried green tomato. The pimento cheese was wonderful, but the best Fried Green tomato I have had have been from the Tin Angel, and 55 South came close but they weren’t quit as good, but definitely a second best. The sandwich on a whole though was definitely a winner! The side of Sweet Potatoes Fries was amazing!
If you are ever in Franklin, TN 55 South is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy some delicious Southern comfort food.
