Lately I
have been trying to get in the habit of reading at least two books a month. It
is without a doubt a much more relaxing way to unwind at the end of the night
versus watching a show on Netflix. Plus in my opinion the spring is the perfect
time of the year to get in the habit of reading – the smell of fresh cut grass,
a gentle breeze blowing, and flowers blooming really does make such a beautiful
setting to spend and afternoon reading outside.
I just
finished reading The Swan House, by Elizabeth Musser and I was completely
enchanted by Musser’s book. Tragedy, mystery, romance, and Southern charm –
this book had so many elements that came together so perfectly to make for a
terrific read.
Mary Swan
Middleton, a sixteen year old from a wealthy family, growing up in Atlanta
during the 1950s. Swan takes the advantages of her family’s wealth for granted
till tragedy takes places that touches many members of the Atlanta community. As
a way to help with Mary Swan’s grief the maid encourages her to reach out to
the less fortunate. While volunteering at a Church Mary Swan meets Carl, and
the way she views the world is forever changed.
Carl is
nearly the opposite of Mary Swan in almost every way; he has a way of view
thing and is stead fast in his faith in a way that her privileged life could
not give her. When Mary Swan is chosen to uncover a mystery she discovers far
more about her mother, and the world she has grown up in than she could have
imagined.
After
reading the first chapter of The Swan House it is very likely you will fall
under the spell of Elizabeth Musser and get lost in the word she has created.
