The Finest Hours

Over the weekend I watched The Finest Hours, a Disney movie production, which in my book means it is bound to be a good story with a happily ever after ending. The Finest Hours is filled with romance, suspense, and heroism, set in the early 1950s, and is based on a true story which makes it all the more better.
Bernie Webber is a crewman at the Coast Guard station in Chatham, MA on Cape Code. He has fallen in love with Miriam, a local girl, and the two plan to marry on April 16, as a formality Bernie has to get permission from the station’s commander in order to marry Miriam. On the day Bernie goes to ask permission, an oil tanker splits in half off the coast. Four coast guard men, one being Bernie, have to go out in a dangerous nor’easter to attempt to save the men who are left on the oil tanker.
When Miriam hears that Bernie is leading the rescue crew, she, like many of the towns people believe it is a suicide mission. Miriam drives to the Coast Guard station and repeatedly demands that the rescue crew be called back in, but her request goes unheard. It is up to Bernie to navigate the dangerous waters and go through with the rescue mission.
The Finest Hour is the perfect summer movie to watch and has all the great making for a terrific story line.
