Woman In Gold

It is pretty rare that I blog about movies, but Woman In Gold is just too good of a movie not to share. Plus Helen Marren and Ryan Reynolds are both great actors, and lets face it – Ryan Reynolds is pretty easy on the eyes…
Woman in Gold is based on the true story of the late Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee living in Los Angles. Maria along with her lawyer, Randy, fight for almost a decade to reclaim an iconic painting of her aunt that is rightful hers. The Klimt painting of her aunt was stolen from her family by the Nazis after they invaded Austria.
Maria’s story is told through a series of flashbacks as she reflects back on important and sentimental moments of her life during World War II. During present day Los Angles, after an older Maria Altmann attends her sister’s funeral, she discovers a letter among her sister’s belongings of an attempt to recover artwork owned by the Altmann family that was left behind/stolen during World War II.  After  enlisting the help of a lawyer Maria realizes just how much of a challenge it is going to be to reclaim the painting of her aunt.

If you are a fan of art history or history in general I highly recommend the Woman in Gold.

    I always like your site, but... of course, I really enjoyed your post today, especially being that it's about a Movie!!!

    I have seen commercial previews for this movie and thought it looked, not only fascinating, but a wonderful story of history and (I'm hoping) redemption for this woman, after her family has been through so much.

    Ryan Reynolds, as you said, is indeed "easy on the eyes". I've thought he was pretty adorable since his sitcom days on "Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place". My, his acting level has certainly come a long way!

    May I ask, is this story family friendly? Are the Nazi flashbacks pretty intense? Is there any romantic story?

      I would say this movie is family friendly. It shows the Nazis taking over her family's apartment in a flash back, but I don't recall any violence like what you would typically see in a WWII film.

      There is a romantic story in the flashbacks Maria has about her husband - the movie shows their wedding reception and their escape from Austria.
