August Book Reviews

Does anyone else they could rewind the clock a little and go back to summer? I am so excited for the fall, the ushering in of the holidays, and the opportunity for layering, but there really is nothing like reading an entire book on a lazy summer day.

I have to admit; I have not been that great lately about sticking to my New Year’s Goal of reading more… I blame Netflix; I stumbled onto this show, Shameless, and cannot stop watching it. Thankfully I think I have made it through almost all the episodes, and I have promised myself that once this show is over I am staying off Netflix for a bit. Anyhow, on to the book round up for August.
Visible Empire, by Hannah Pittard// Basically any book that is set during the 1920’s – 1960’s I am pretty much guaranteed to love it. The books that are centered around the Paris/Atlanta plane crash completely mesmerize me in the weirdest way. I still cannot believe that I never learned of such a large-scale event when I was in school, and I just find it so jarring that Atlanta went through such a tragedy.

Visible Empire is about the children, spouses, friends, and loved ones left behind to deal with the grief, a mayor that must figure out a way to move an entire community together and rise from such a tragic event, and the scandal the accident brings to the surface.

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake, by Amy E. Reichert// A rom-com should seriously be made out of this book. I know some of you out there might shake their heads, but I have no shame in confessing that I bought this book because of the cover, and it totally paid off; I will definitely be reading more books by Reichert!

An unlikely pair, Lou, a restaurant owner and chef, and Al, a restaurant reviewer, cross paths on the day Lou got her worst review, which also happened to be the review that Al was celebrating. Al challenges Lou to make him fall in love with the city of Milwaukee, which she agrees to. The two fall in love, but what will happen when the truth comes out…

The Secret To Hummingbird Cake, by Celeste Fletcher McHale// Get ready to experience every emotion possible when you read this book. A story of lifelong friends, navigating their way through marriage, the unexpected speed bumps in life, and the secret to hummingbird cake.
