How To Keep Fresh Cut Flowers Fresher Longer

Fresh cut flowers are hands down my favorite element to add to any room. They always seem to instantly brighten up a room, adds an element of freshness, a feminine touch, and a sense  of warmth. The one and probably only down side to fresh cut flowers is getting them to last for a week or longer and maintain their fresh look. So keep you flower looking fresher longer and as an added bonus, cut back on your flower budget a bit, below are a few tips to keep your fresh cut flowers looking fresher longer.

1.      If you buy your flowers from a flower shop or grocery store find out which days they have a fresh batch of flowers delivered to the store
2.    Once you buy your fresh cut flowers you have about 30 minutes at the most to get them back in some water
3.    I once had a man who worked at whole foods tell me not to use the flower food {those little packets that comes with flowers you buy from a grocery store} I have no idea why but not using the packets actually made the flowers last longer
4.    Change the water the flowers are sitting in every day
5.    A touch of coldness can be a flower’s best friend – I usually add 2 -3 ice cubes to the water when I change out the water and it really does make all the difference
6.    Along with the ice cubes add a crushed up aspirin to the water. Sounds crazy, I know, but it works
7.     Remove wilting blossoms from arrangement when you notice them. Wilted blossoms can get a bit moldy and contaminate the healthy flowers
8.    Place your flower arrangement in a spot that is a cool area in your home and keep away from direct sunlight. Also try not to place flowers around fruit; they may look good in a painting together but some fruits release gases that shorten a flowers life
