Halloween is just one week from tomorrow and there is still so much to
do: finish buying those last few pumpkins, pumpkin carving, tablescapeing, lawn
scapeing , putting together costumes, buying candy, and getting everything
organized for that perfect Halloween party.
Throwing a holiday party can always be a bit overwhelming, but just keep
in mind that as long as there is a good group of people around your Halloween
party will be a success, even if you do forget to mark something off of your
to-do list or over cook a desert. Just keep calm and party on.
Luckily for todays guest post Peter Minkoff is sharing a few tips for
how to have the most fabulous Halloween Party! All the way from choosing a
party theme to drinks, here is your Halloween party guide!
Double,
double toil and trouble, fire burn, and caldron bubble. The spookiest night of
the year is almost around the corner and we are living for it! You’ve probably
been to dozens of Halloween parties before, and maybe it’s time you threw the
most unforgettable Halloween party of the decade. If you were thinking about it
and don’t know where to start or what to do next, here are a few tips to make the most
fabulous Halloween party that will be talked about not only this year,
but in the years to come.
Choose
the theme and set the scene
It’s not only important to decorate your
house with thousands of Halloween decorations. If your party doesn’t
have a theme, it might be just as any other. Choosing a theme can be a very
creative process – you can go with a haunted house in New Orleans (and paint
everything black), the Salem Witch Trials, a haunted lake or forest, or even a
zombie hospital – the options are endless and everything is up to you. Once you
have chosen the theme, go with the decorations – you can find many DIY projects
online, but have in mind that everything has to blend in seamlessly – you don’t
want a haunted house Halloween party with zombie nurses. However, never forget
the carved pumpkins on the entrance!
Be creative with the food
The best choice for party food is a buffet since it allows all of your
guests to enjoy the snacks all night long. For a great Halloween buffet, we
recommend not keeping everything in one place, but rather have several small
buffets. As for the ideas for serving food – you can go totally crazy. For
example, the first table can have the regular snacks, such as cheese, popcorns,
crisps, all arranged nicely in black or red bowls. The other buffet can be a
sweet one, where you will make (or order) special cupcakes
and cakes, while the third one will have the main dishes in the form of
eyeballs, brains, worms or even served in skulls or ancient plates.
Prepare
the invitations and send them out
So, we agreed that your theme has to be cohesive. In order to achieve
this even better, you can design and print out the invitations that are going
to inform people about the theme of the party. You want them to dress up in
accordance to the theme, right? Don’t make a rookie mistake and send out
invitations that only have a carved pumpkin on the covers. If you choose, for
example, a haunted house, you can find many templates for invitations written
in an 18th-century font.
If your theme is a bloody wedding, again, go for an old wedding invitation but
print the letters in red. Whether you choose to have a designer make your
invitations or opt for a template you found online, it is totally up to you.
However, make sure that if you want the party of the decade, you have to think
about all the details.
Ask your guests to pick the poison they will be drinking all night
The most important aspect of every party is the bar. Our tip is to serve cocktails only – refer to them as poisons and come up with a different name for each. You can, of course, have non-alcoholic and alcoholic poisons, and you can find many recipes for cheap cocktails online. Your party is a different one and it would be good to choose drinks that are not that expensive but still are of high quality. In order to do this, you can search for many types of tasty wine and tailored whiskey online, or check out some of the local breweries or wineries. With a dash of food colouring, you can make your drinks black, red or neon green.
Mind the
music
If you want to be totally spooky, you can play the music from horror
movies until all the guests arrive and let them indulge in the atmosphere. The
second phase could be playing several horror-inspired
tracks, such as the legendary Thriller by Michael Jackson, or Ding-Dong
The Witch Is Dead by Ella Fitzgerald. Once everyone is comfortable and tipsy
from their “poisons”, you can proceed with the hits that everyone loves.
It’s actually not difficult to make an unforgettable Halloween party
that everyone will like, and it can be pretty cheap as well if you resort to
DIY projects. If you follow these tips, however, and if you’re creative – you
can’t make a mistake. Your party is going to be one HELL OF A NIGHT!
