Great Southern

The other morning I had breakfast at the Great Southern, a restaurant located in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. As you have probably guessed by now I am a fan of Southern food, and the Great Southern, given the name, has some wonderful Southern food on the menu! Not only do they have great food but the Great Southern has a wonderful ambiance; you can hear the sound of the ocean and have the sea breeze blowing, sitting on a rustic porch, enjoying the view of a quaint beach town. Now I have to warn you if you ever decide to eat at the Great Southern you better go with an appetite, because the food served at the Great Southern is what we like to refer to in the South as rib sticking food, it is delicious and you will never leave hungry.
For breakfast I ordered the Crab Cakes and Fried Green Tomatoes, which was served in an Eggs Benedict fashion. The Crab Cakes were delicious, the eggs were poached to perfection, the holiday sauce wasn’t too heavy or light but just right, however, the fried green tomatoes weren’t as good as good as the ones from the Tin Angels, in all honestly I didn’t care much for the batter that was used to fry them. The Grits that accompanied the Crab Cakes and Fried Green Tomatoes were delicious! The consistency was perfect and their house hot sauce really set the grits off! All in all this was a pretty wonderful breakfast.
The Great Southern has wonderful inside dinning but I opted to eat on the outside porch because it was such a beautiful day and well…because I had my little dog, Coco with me. I do love the atmosphere of their outside dinning area: the white tables and chairs, the view, and the service is great.
I love the set up of the bar that is on their porch dinning area. As you all know I am a sucker for a chalkboard menu and a chalkboard drink menu is no exception!

  16. Okay this looks DIVINE! Crab cakes, grits and fried green tomatoes are among my favorite foods. I grew up with Southern food, but in Canada it is almost impossible to find. Whenever I'm in the south I always take full advantage :)
