Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau or
better know to most as Lilly Pulitzer, was a socialite and fashion designer.
She is best known for founding Lilly Pulitzer Inc, which produces clothes,
accessories, shoes, and other items. The bright colors, floral prints, and
other designs that could only be Lilly, make her products easy and unmistakable
to spot.
Lilly Lee McKim {Lilly Pulitzer}
was born to Robert and Lillian McKim in Roslyn, New York on November 10, 1931.
She went on to attend the college-finishing school Finch College in New York
City, but left after one semester to work as a midwife’s assistant in West
Virginia and a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in the Bronx. In 1950, she
eloped with Herbert Pulitzer Jr. Lilly and Herbert had three children, Peter,
Minnie, and Liza. Lilly later divorced Herbert in 1969. Shortly after her
divorce she married Enrique Rousseau.
Lilly Pulitzer opened up a juice
stand in Palm Beach Florida where she decided to make colorful dresses to hide
the stains. After Lilly’s old schoolmate, First Lady Jackie Kennedy, was
photographed wearing a Lilly Pulitzer dress on vacation; everyone wanted a
dress designed by Lilly Pulitzer.
Lillian Lee McKim Pulitzer
Rousseau {Lilly Pulitzer} passed away earlier today at her South County Road
residence. Lilly Pulitzer clothing and other products are still popular till
this day, especially in the South.
