Work It Out

This past August I really made a point to start working out again even if it was just one or two days a week. I slowly started falling off the workout wagon once I got out of college – it seemed like as time went on I felt like I had less and less free time/ kind of didn’t want to make time.

I have found the secret to getting into the habit of working out {again} is to just make a point to do something somewhat active, even if it is just for 15 minutes and find an exercise you enjoy. Just because you don’t have time to go to they gym doesn’t mean you can’t do lunges, yoga, or body weight exercises at home.

There are so many studies on the internet that list the many benefits of working out. I will confess that I was most definitely one of those who kind of rolled their eyes and believe that working out probably didn’t make that much of a difference. I was wrong, working out makes a big difference, and not just physically. There are loads of mental benefits that come with working out; for me personally my mind is more clear, I don’t fell as stressed, have more energy, and I sleep tons better at night.

I make a point to not put a lot of stress to stick to a very specific workout routine, and I also make a point to mix things up to avoid workout burn out.

- Yoga: I started going to yoga with a friend at the start of the fall and by the end of the first class I was hooked. I usually have the chance to go to yoga twice a week at the very most, but it is something a look forward to and even something I consider a treat. Who knew a workout could be so relaxing.

- Elliptical: This is probably the most popular go-to workout machine for girls. I really like the fact that these machines have such a large menu of workouts you can choose from depending on your mood and how much time you are able to spend at the gym. Plus almost all ellipitcals seem to have a built-in television, which definitely helps.

- Outside: Since the weather is finally warming up {thank goodness} I really want to start going for walks/hikes outside again. Spring in Nashville is so beautiful and going for a quick walk is one of my favorite ways to decompress.

What are your favorite workouts?

  1. I really need to do yoga! I have been doing TRX twice a week for a year and its great strength training without being boring, and running as much as I can. At my age my metabolism has hit a brick wall ugh!
