The Girl Who Chased The Moon

If you follow me on Instagram you probably already know that I was at the beach for a couple weeks in November. I’m still day dreaming about the beach – I’m never ready to leave any place that is close to water, there is just something about it that is so peaceful. One of my favorite things to do at the beach is sit by the ocean, listen to the waves crash on to the shore, and read a good book.

I usually enjoy my beach vacation in Seaside, FL. and this little town just happens to have a great bookstore with a southern fiction section, that always gets me in trouble… The past couple times I’ve gone down there I always end up reading books by Sarah Addison Allen; there is always a perfect magical element to her books that makes reading her books by the ocean just feel right.

The GirlWho Chased the Moon takes place in Mullaby, NC – a well-know BBQ town. The tragic events of her mother’s death leads Emily Benedict back to her Mother’s hometown in North Carolina. After moving in with her grandfather, who Emily has never met before, she soon realized that mysteries are a way of life in Mullaby and not something to be solved. Her bedroom wallpaper changes according to her mood, an unexplained light dances in the woods at night, and a neighbor bakes cake in the hopes that it will lead a loved one back to her.

After Emily settles into life in Mullaby she realizes that her mother was quite a different person in her younger days, and soon comes to the conclusion that she no longer has to exhaust herself to live up to all the good her mother has done, but rather, she has to live down the person her mother was in her younger years.

A book of magic, secrets, and an element of surprise this is one book I definitely recommend!
