10 Summer Pieces That Will Always Be In Style

{Via}
While it may be taking a little while for the weather to warm up summer is just around the corner. I am so ready for sunny day, warm weather, the sound of water, and a summer breeze blowing through my hair. With each season it always seems like there are those iconic wardrobe stables that seem to never go out of style: oxford shirts, navy and white stripes, the oh so timeless shift dress. Below are my top 10 timeless summer wardrobe staples!
The Shift Dress: A shift dress can be worn to almost anything from a summer picnic to a casual wedding. Any summer day can be conquered as long as you have a trusty shift dress to pull out.
Jack Rogers Sandals: Of course after a Lilly Shift the next logic item is a pair of Jack Rogers. Since Jackie Kennedy played a part in making both the Lilly Shift Dress and Jack Rogers sandals popular it only seems appropriate to have them next to each other. These sandals can be worn with anything from a bathing suit to a classic summer dress. When in doubt, throw on a pair of Jacks!
Seersucker: Confession after the holiday season is over I start counting down the days till Easter when it is officially acceptable to start wearing seersucker everything once more.
White: White may have become acceptable to wear during all the four seasons, which I am very thankful for, but the season white really shines in is summer. Can a white on white combination be beat during this time of year?
Navy & White Stripes: In my book navy & white stripes will always be a classic and a favorite of mine. Navy and White dress, skirts, shorts, tops – why yes, I will chose all of the above!
The Nude Pump: Goes with everything and looks chic – need I say more?
The Oxford: An oxford shirt is always, always, a wardrobe must have. It is classic, looks put together, and can be worn as part of a work outfit {depending on how casual your place of employment is} or with some shorts on the weekend.
Tunic: Admittedly, I am not 100% sure if the tunic has officially become a “piece that will always be in style”, but I think it is safe to say that it will easily be around for summers to come. Perfect to wear over a bathing suit or with white jeans and wedges to dinner later that night.
The Wedge: Wedge or heel? During the summer I will opt for wedges unless of course a pair of nude pumps would look far better.
A classic black or navy swimsuit: I am partial to brighter color swimsuits, especially neon colors, but there is something so classic and timeless about a black/navy swimsuit that makes me feel a bit on the elegant side whenever I wear one.
What are some of you favorite classic summer pieces?

Sunday Night Thought

Quiet Mind = Peaceful Sleep

For the past few months I haven’t been sleeping entirely well – going to bed late, waking up early. Needless to say once the lack of sleep finally caught up with I felt like I hit a wall; everything was overwhelming and even the smallest of task seemed daunting. Sleep unquestionably makes a difference.

As I have mentioned a few times before I usually lay off of working out from about November – February, because of the holiday season and then the overflow at the gym right after the holidays. Usually I only backslide on working out around the holidays, but this time I feel back into a few bad habits: staying up too late, looking at my computer and telephone right before I went to bed, drinking too much coke, eating too much sugar {but hey, it was the holiday season…right?}, along with a few other things.

Around mid March I started working out again, cut back on my coke consumption and sugar {after all that working out who wants to let that work go to waste}, I also started go to bed earlier, and reading before bed instead of looking at my computer or phone. Luckily started up one good habit again had a chain reaction and the other healthier habits started to come back into play.

Working out made me feel more centered and level headed – it definitely plays a larger part then just getting yourself back in shape. Once I feel back into a healthier routine, I thankfully started sleeping better, and working out and reading instead of looking at my computer or phone before I went to bed definitely played a large part!

Do you have any tips for getting a better night’s sleep? What are some of your tricks?

I hope everyone has a fun weekend ahead of them spent with friends and family. Cheers!

“Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you ear, and when you sleep, really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.
~ Ernest Hemingway

So...I Have This Thing About Doors

{Via}
So… I have this thing about doors… This may sound a bit odd but ever since I was little I have always looked for the “face” of a house. Believe it or not you can actually spot a face if you look hard enough; if you think about it, it only makes sense a house would have a face, because those who inhabit a house give it life and soul. I have always thought the windows to be eyes and the door to be the smile. Some houses look happy, friendly, welcoming, and other houses look sad and unfriendly.

Whenever I go on vacation somewhere I always make a point to walk around and admire the local architecture. The architecture usually seems to varies from place to place. There is an artistry/craftsmanship that goes into designing a door. I have to admit I’m not sure I would ever want a pink door, but I love it when you stumble upon a row of houses and they all have different color pastel doors and every now and then a pink one will make an appearance. Or when in an urban neighborhood that has been around for years and years and you stumble across an old, stunning door that has been around forever and could not possibly be recreated in today’s world.

The doors…the door plays the key factor in whether a house looks happy or sad, welcoming or unfriendly. The door is like the first page of a book; it is a first impression. Needless to say it is important to pick out a door that represents you and your family, goes with the structure of the house, and delivers the right message to visitors when they first arrive.

Trending :: Tassels

This spring/summer season you might see a few familiar trends that were popular last year such as the pop of neon, stripes {the never go out of style}, converse shoes, just to name a few. Lately one trend that I am loving and am glad to see come back around this season is the tassel trend.

I have seen tassels everywhere lately and on every thing; from earrings to shoes to tops and yes, even bikinis bottoms. I just can’t get enough of them, especially the bright color tassels that are being used to add a little extra something to tops and scarves.

Here’s where to shop for my above favorite tassel items. Click on the name of the item below to be directed to the website.
