It's The Small Things

In the hustle and bustle of today’s society it seems that for the most part people get caught up in the big picture things: the next job promotion, buying a new car, buying a new house, progression of family, and so on. I think it is wonderful that we live in such a goal driven society, but the down side to big picture thinking is that you inevitable lose sight of the small happy moments of the day.

I am a strong believer in you attract back what kind of energy you project; it you have a positive disposition and train of thought positive things seem to come your way, if you have a negative disposition and thought process negative things seem to come your way.

Even on my worst day I have always been able to find a bright spot in the day, even if it is just something as small as a really nice or funny text that brought a smile to my face, Sometimes when I am not having a not so great day I mental list all the positive things and sometimes on a really good I make a mental list of all the good things that happened that day just for the fun of it and because it makes me feel extra grateful.

Today I thought I would share with you a few of my favorite things/moments, and I would love to hear some of yours.

The sight of fresh cut flowers

The smell of freshly cut grass

The rustle of fall leaves

When you finally have an excuse to get dressed up and wear your most favorite dress

Fresh baked cookies

A fun/super nice phone/text/in person conversation

The first sip of a freshly opened glass coke bottle

A Pinterest project that actually turns out like it’s supposed to

Feeling the sun on your back and the wind softly blowing through your hair

Taking a long hot shower at the end of the day

When you’re trying to find something to watch on TV and you stumble onto your favorite movie

The smell of a bookstore

A cat eye eyeliner attempt that turns out perfectly

Bringing a smile to someone’s else face

Hearing a sense of happiness and laughter in someone’s voice

The sound of the ocean

The sun glistening off the water

Your favorite home cooked meal, cooked by your mother, of course

Black and white movies

Christmas music

The sound of rain on the roof at night

The merriment heard at parties

Finding the perfect shade of red lipstick

Listening to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Etta James

A long ago smell that brings back memories

Finally eating that sushi/pizza/taco/pasta/sandwich that you’ve had taste for all day long

Climbing into a warm, cozy bed at night and burying yourself under a pile of blankets and duvets
