What I'm Currently Watching On Netflix

Confession, I am most definitely one of those people who will binge watch Netflix at night when I can’t sleep, which inevitable leads to a very sleepy then caffeine filled morning… but I mean, the next episode is always just one click away… In my personal opinion Netflix seems to have their better shows during their Fall lineup, honestly, is there any Netflix series out there better than The Crown? Until the Fall season arrives I have managed to find a few new Netflix series that are worth binge watch on those nights when sleep does not want to arrive.
13 Reasons Why// I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about this series… It is strangely captivating though. I think it is a good show in that sense that the underlying tone is kind of a call to action message of be cautious what you say to people, how you treat them, and how you make them feel at the end of a conversation. It also delivers the message of you can’t always judge a book by their cover and you may not always realize the internal battles some might be fighting.

The main character, Hannah, a high school student, seems like the type of person you would want to be friends with and is relatable to on certain levels. I’m obviously well out of high school and didn’t face some of the traumatic events that she did, but I think it’s safe to say that at that age we all worry about fitting in to some degree, meeting the expectations our parents and school set for us, feeling not understood at times, being on the outs with friends, liking a boy who you think doesn’t like you back but in reality is just intimidated or not really sure how to act on his feelings, and experiencing highs and lows. I think that’s why this show is kind of captivating because you want to find out how a girl who start the series off as an otherwise happy, out going, friendly person, can end up in such a dark spot that they feel the option left is to end their life.

Obviously this is a heavy show, hence the rambling {pretty sure this is the longest summary of a show I have ever written} but I think it is a good one to watch, just be prepared. And in the event that there is anyone out there reading this who feels like they are in a dark similar to Hannah’s please reach out to a help service person, hotline, online counselor, etc.  and just remember that no mater how alone you feel there are people who love dearly and would do anything for you.
Anne With An E// Obviously after watching some as heavy as 13 Reasons Why a lighter show was in order and Netflix definitely drew me into Anne With An E with the nostalgic factor. I regret to say that I never read the Anne of Green Gables series growing up {I really should but those on my to-read list} but I did watch the Anne of Green Gables show in the 90’s and I was kind of obsessed with it… Anne With An E is still the beloved, mischievous, clever, imaginative character that we have always loved whom breaths life back into the Cuthbert household. However, the show isn’t as bright as the 90’s pretrial of the book was, it seems like maybe the director was going for maybe a more realistic view of the times.
Girlboss// I just started watching this series, but I’m kind of loving it so far. Usually shows that are done along this style or either hit or miss with me – Love New Girl and The Mindy Project, but the show Girls…I will take a firm pass on that one. Considering that I just started watching this series I don’t have too much to say other that it is a good show so far and I just found out that it is based on Sophia Amoruso, author of the book #Girlboss and the founder of Nasty Gal {despite the name most of their clothes are tasteful, btw love this LBD}. So far I recommend this show.
