4th Of July Pops

When I reminisce of the Fourth of Julys of long ago when I was younger, running around in a smocked dress and monogrammed underwear, I always remember holding a sparkler way too close to my face for comfort with a popsicle hanging out of the side of my mouth. I’m glad to say I didn’t burn an eyebrow off with a sparkler – although a missing eyebrow came later in college one sleep deprived when I shaved it off with a razor by accident {yes, that can really happen} – I guess karma came around…upside: I discovered eyebrow gel and pencils because of that unfortunate accident.

Question of the hour: Would it be summer without the popsicle? I think not! The Fourth of July is like the epitome of summer; if summer were a book The Fourth of July would be the climax of the book. Since the Fourth of July is the day that summer is basically defined by all summer favorites and summer classics must be fit into this one day. For the Fourth of July pools, fireworks, hotdogs, and popsicles are a must!

This Fourth make your fourth of July pop with some very festive popsicles. P.S. the watermelon pops are my favorite.

Here’s where to get the recipe. Click on the name of the popsicle to be directed to the website where you can find the recipe.
1.               Watermelon Popsicles

5th and Taylor

A couple weeks ago for my birthday I ate at a fairly new Nashville restaurant in Germantown and it was amazing. I honestly think the food at 5th& Taylor is the best food I have eaten out in years; not even exaggerating.
Most of the food tasted like something my great-grandmother used to whip up in her kitchen – the biscuits still had a faint taste of baking powder atop of them. I love how new restaurants are constantly popping up in Nashville {especially the farm to table ones}, but it is not very often you walk into a restaurant with a trendy atmosphere and have the sense of eating food that taste as if it were prepared for an old-fashioned family dinner, and 5th & Taylor did just that.
Unfortunately I was so wrapped up in the dinning experience {I’m a bit of a foodie} I failed to take a picture of every dish, but here are a few of my favorite picks from the menu:
1.      sausage-cheddar biscuits {they melt in your mouth}
2.    Summer squash soup
3.    Shrimp and Grits
4.    Side of grilled squash
5.    Raspberry Macaroon {a real raspberry is in the middle of the macaroon}

The Astronaut Wives Club

The Astronaut Wives Club only premiered last week and it has already become my favorite TV show of the summer, aside from Pretty Little Liars {aka my guilty pleasure}.  The 1950s – 1960s is one of my favorite time periods just because of all the history and events that happened during these year, plus I like how people dressed back in this era; I could totally wear a dress and pearls on a daily basis.

The Astronaut Wives Club is actually based on the book The Astronaut Wives Club by Lily Kroppel. The television series tells the story of the women who stood by their astronaut husbands during the race to the moon. Mainly because of the time period The Astronauts Wives Club reminds me a little of the TV show Pan Am, which was one of my favorite shows but unfortunately was canceled… I have my fingers crossed that The Astronaut Wives Club is on for more than just one season.

In almost every show there always seems to be one character that you can kind of relate or share a few commonalities with. Rene Carpenter is the character I can relate to in this TV series – would I wear a floral dress to a magazine photo shoot that requested you wear a solid dress – probably. Would I bake a desert and find an outfit to match – I have already pulled that stunt. If you have not checked out The Astronaut Wives Club yet I highly recommend it; it is a show that is easy to fall in love with.

Kate Spade 2016 Agendas

So I always get a little overly excited around this time a year when the new planners start making their appearance. Kate Spade, Lilly Pulitzer, Ban.do, oh my… how is a girl ever to decide. I usually go with the Lilly Pulitzer planners just because they are so cute and bright, but this year I am thinking of mixing it up, venturing out and trying a different planner.

I am that person who never uses their phone calendar… In all honestly I am that person who will hear someone say a date and time and think to myself “I can remember that”; which most of the time I do, but it is always good to write it down somewhere.

I usually use my planners to keep up with different blog topics and social obligations, but this year I have slacked off using it – I don’t think I have used my current planner since December…
I am loving the Kate Spade Planners this year blue is one of my favorite colors, so I obviously love the blue agenda, but the My Favorite things print is so adorable as well.

Kate Spade For Baby

Is it just me or does it seem like the tinnier the clothes are the cutter they are? Kate Spade has come out with a clothing line for babies and basically everything is pretty much adorable. After all, babies, sweet little clothes, and bows are involved so how could this line be anything but cute!
