Jackie + Jacks

A couple of days ago, July 28 to be exact, was the infamous Jackie Kennedy’s birthday. Jackie Kennedy, later Jackie O., was and still is such a notorious fashion icon. She knew what looked good on, what was in style at the time, and what wardrobe pieces would stand the test of time. Jackie wore Lilly Pulitzer and Jack Rogers sandals even before they were the “it” wardrobe pieces to have; some might if say she is a large contributor to the popularity of both brands and their successful take off simply because she wore their products.  In honor of Jackie Kennedy’s recent birthday this week here are a few Jack Rogers sandals that I think she would even be happy to wear.

Beautiful Ruins

I recently finished another book from my summer reading list {click here to view} I posted a couple weeks ago and simply had to share it with you all. In all honesty Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter took a little while for me to get into but once I did I could not put the book down, one day I think I read a little over a hundred pages in one sitting. Beautiful Ruins alternates back and fourth between present time Los Angeles and Italy in 1962; the characters and modern and present time are artfully woven together as the story line progresses. This book has romance, drama, a beautiful setting, and of course the writing is wonderful.

Beautiful Ruins opens on a rocky Italian coastline in 1962 with an Italian innkeeper, Pasquale, looking out over the water soon spotting and American film actress, Dee, who is in Italy for the filming of Cleopatra. While on the set of Cleopatra Dee has a love affair with the infamous Richard Burton resulting in a child, which at the start of the pregnancy Dee thinks is stomach cancer. She is sent to stay at Pasquale’s inn before heading to Switzerland. Pasquale and Dee have an unspoken chemistry between, unfortunately it will be about 50 years till they are able to reunite and have a happy ending together.

In Modern Day Los Angeles Michael Deen, an old movie producer, and his assistant Claire work to produce mostly reality shows. While Claire is listening to different movie pitches on wild pitch Friday Seth, who is pitching the movie Donner!, walks into the studio at the same time as Pasquale. Pasquale makes it clear to Claire via Seth’s Italian to American translation that he is not there to pitch a movie idea but rather looking for an old movie actress by the name of Dee Moore. Once Claire understands the situation she calls Michael at his home to explain the situation. Arrangements are made for Michael, Claire, Seth, and Pasquale to set off to find Dee, her son, and reunite Pasquale and Dee after so many years have gone by.

This book is a wonderful read and one I highly recommend. The righting is beautiful and the characters are so well developed through out the book. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter is the perfect book to read while sitting by the pool and enjoying the summer sun.

Apparel By PW Sunglass Straps

Back at the start of the summer Apparel By PW and I started following each other on Instagram. I have to admit, I fell in love with their nautical themed t-shirts, belts, key chains, and of course sunglass straps. In June James, from Apparelby PW, and I partnered together to host a giveaway for a chance to win a pair of USA Bow Tie sunglass straps {yes, you read that right, Apparel by PW makes bow tie sunglass straps} again, congratulations to the winner of that giveaway! I am excited to tell you that Apparel by PW and I not only partnered together to host a giveaway but to do a product review as well.
Apparel by PW sent me a pair of their Navy Sailors Knot Sunglass Straps to review. I really love the nautical theme these sunglass straps have about them, the gold hardware, and the length of the sunglass straps. One of my pet peeves about sunglass straps is they always seem to hang too high or too low and in my opinion these hang at the perfect length. Another bonus about these sunglass straps is that they are so easy to adjust and would look great with just about any pair of sunglasses!
The Navy Sailor Knot Sunglass Strap seems to be made well with quality material and are oh so comfortable to wear around. I am partial to anything navy, well…let’s be honest, I am partial to basically anything that is blue. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, not only would these straps be great at the beach but also sporting events.
Since Apparel By PW sent me a pair of the Navy Sailors Knot Sunglass straps I could not resist styling them with a white; after all navy and white are such a classic combination. For this review I wore a Vineyard Vines EmbroideredSleeveless Top {similar}, Vineyard Vines Eyelet Classic Shorts, Ray-BanAviators, a pair of Kate Spade earrings, and a pair of Tory Burch LeighannePatent Flat Thong Sandals.
If you haven’t stopped by Apparel by Pw be sure to visit their site! I love their sunglassstraps and all of the other wonderful Apparel by PW items.

Lilly Pulitzer Sunnies

Until earlier today I had no clue at all that Lilly Pulitzer made sunglasses and of course like every thing else Lilly designs their sunglasses are so chic and cute! These glasses would be so perfect for the summer, especially a beach trip; I might even venture to say they are a beach essential, after all you need a pair of Lilly sunnies to match your Lilly bikini – right? My personal favorites are the Shorely Blue Mini Party Favors print Sunglasses; I am always such a sucker for a light blue and white combination.
